The factory was the foundation for the existence of the community, but it was also essential for the community's cultural life; choirs, bands etc. (cp. British brass bands and mining). "Celebration for band" tries to give a picture of the environment and life around a band like this, with both factory noise and the natural world (Pastorale), as well as the challenges and development of the band itself. The composition is built up of five connected episodes: - Fanfare and Prologue (concludes with a feeling of the untamed power of the river) - Pastorale I: ” At the river” - Intermezzo: ” The Factory” (starts with the opening of water for the turbines: snare drum. Factory whistle and bell call to work, and the spinning and weaving machinery starts up.) - Pastorale II: ” Summer evening on the fjord.” - Finale: ” Challenge and Progress” {no} ”Celebration for Band”er skrevet til Arne Musikforenings 140-års jubileum. Mange korps i Norge har sitt utspring i et fabrikksted; ved en fjord eller sjø, ved en elv eller ved et fossefall som ga kraft til fabrikken osv. Fabrikken var eksistensgrunnlaget for stedet, men den var også vesentlig for kulturlivet og opprettelse av kor og korps. ”Celebration for band” forsøker å gi et bilde av stedet og livet rundt et slikt korps, med både fabrikkstøy og naturskildringer (pastorale), samt de utfordringer og utvikling et korps har. Komposisjonen er bygget opp i fem sammenhengende episoder: - Fanfare og prolog (avsluttes med en følelse av elvens utemmede krefter). - Pastorale I: ”Ved elven”. - Intermezzo: ”Fabrikken” (innledes med at det åpnes for vann til turbinene: skarptromme. Fabrikkfløyte og klokke kaller til arbeid, og maskiner - her vevstoler og spinnemaskiner - startes.) - Pastorale II: ”Sommerkveld på fjorden.” - Finale: ”Utfordring og utvikling / Challenge and Progress”.
