In celebration of its 75th anniversary season, the Tanglewood Music Center commissioned this mixed quartet from Shulamit Ran. Birkat Haderekh may be heard as a “prayer without words” in which the clarinet figures most prominently in cantillation-inspired cadenzas that frame the work and dramatically emerge throughout. Birkat Haderekh is also available for sextet, adding alto saxophone and percussion to the original quartet ensemble |
